The headache of dog clothes that don't fit properly.
As all dog lovers know, all dogs are not the same shape. But until my partner & I started trying to buy clothes for our dogs, we didn't know that commercial manufacturers do not acknowledge this.
Sure, if you buy a blanket style coat there is some room for adjustment. Only some, though. The knitted, pull over the head dog jumpers have some stretch to them. If you have a slim dog, this is OK until after a few washes when it has stretched to a point where it won't stay on for more than one or two nights. If you have a well muscled dog, it fits like a straight jacket before the washing has stretched it enough for comfort.
In conversation with friends, we discovered that people with whippets and dachshunds were having even greater trouble finding dog clothes that fit.
So we decided to come up with a solution ourselves.
Lots of measuring of lots of breeds
We set about driving all of our friends mad. They all have dogs of all different shapes. So they measured, we measured, we recorded. We went through reams of newspaper and household loads of old sheets till we finally came up with a formula that allowed us to develop a set of patterns for clothes that fit almost all shapes and sizes of dogs.
Three fittings in each size!
We now offer dog clothes in 15 different standard lengths, starting at 20 cm (measured from neck to tail) and going up in 5 cm increments to 90 cm. (That's 8 inches to 35 inches.)This in itself makes us different from other sellers of dog apparel.
But what really sets us apart is the fact that, for each length, we offer a choice of fittings for slim, average or ample sized dogs.
This combination of size and fitting means that you can order clothing for almost any breed of dog and get a stylish, comfortable garment.
At present we are working on perfecting patterns for whippets and dachshunds.
